Santex

Partnership with UNICEF

Santex Products has signed an MoU with UNICEF to reduce the critical issue of period poverty, aiming to improve menstrual health and hygiene (MHH) standards for adolescent girls and women across the country. This collaboration, formalized in March 2022, reflects a shared commitment to ensuring universal access to safe, high-quality, and affordable menstrual products.

As part of this partnership, Santex and UNICEF are driving research and innovation in the development of low-cost sanitary napkins, making these essential products more accessible. In addition to product innovation, the collaboration has focused on advocacy efforts, including hosting MHH tax reform discussions, where government bodies were engaged to address the need for reducing taxes on menstrual hygiene products

One key initiative is the #NoChuttiPlus campaign, launched in May 2022, which aims to dismantle the social stigmas surrounding menstruation. The campaign empowers adolescent girls by providing them with the knowledge and tools to manage their periods with dignity, addressing challenges they face, particularly in schools where inadequate hygiene facilities often cause girls to miss classes.

To mark the importance of Menstrual Hygiene Day 2024 and to acknowledge the work already being done, Santex and UNICEF engaged major corporate and development sectors committed to creating a period-friendly world. This effort not only highlights the ongoing work but also emphasizes the need for continued efforts and collaboration to ensure menstrual health becomes a basic right for all women. Through these joint initiatives, Santex and UNICEF are working toward long-term change, promoting menstrual health education, and advancing Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) related to sanitation, and hygiene.
